Shop lights are especially important, especially for business owners. Insufficient lighting could make it difficult to complete a task or worse, cause injury. Those are the most important reasons to look for the right LED lighting for garage shops.

LED Lighting for Garage Shops

LED lighting for garage shops is required to ensure there is proper lighting to get work done and to avoid injury caused by improper lighting. People don’t often recommend LEDs for shops because the light they emit is often directional. However, things have changed in fantastic ways.

For example, there are LEDs with reflectors or with wings that allow you to direct the light in any way you want. The goal is to ensure there is sufficient lighting to get the job done. But more importantly, they cost less to run. Shops are often looking for a way to lower energy costs since a lot of the tools used require energy.

Lighting is the perfect solution that can lower the cost of electricity every month.

Brightness

LED lighting doesn’t measure brightness the same way incandescent bulbs do. Lumens are used to measure the light output instead of Watts. For example, a 75-Watt bulb produces about 1100 lumens of light. That means the average shop will require LEDs that are at least 3500 lumens.

This will give you plenty of brightness without wasting light and therefore, wasting energy and money. You could go brighter if you think it is worth the price. But 3500 is pretty standard for these scenarios.

LED Kelvins for Garages

LED lighting for garage shops should provide a clear view of everything in the shop. We used to just grab an incandescent bulb that fit the fixture we were using. But these days, we get to decide more. For example, the color of the light. LEDs measure the color of the light in Kelvins.

Think of it this way, incandescent often gives off a yellowish color in the light. That can be adjusted by looking at the Kelvins on an LED light. LEDs can mimic incandescent yellowish light with only 3,500K. But for clearer white light, you will want closer to 6,000K.

Garages should aim for LED bulbs that have around 5,000K for the best results and clearer light.

Lighting Fixture Upgrades

One of the best things shops could do when upgrading the lighting is add more custom options. Some fixtures can be lowered or raised depending on the situation that would be perfect for garages. Imagine having a fixture or two above each workstation that is on a pully system.

The mechanic at that station would be able to raise and lower the light depending on their specific needs for each specific job. This could save the business money by not requiring more lights to be used more often.
