Business owners aren’t the only ones who want to save money by saving energy. Many energy providers throughout the country are also trying to help save energy and money. That is why those service providers offer business lighting rebates. In fact, many service providers offer energy rebates on a multitude of items you may be using. The question is, how do rebates work and what qualifies you for them in the first place?

Your business may qualify for business lighting rebates from your local service provider but you need to know what they are first.

What are Business Lighting Rebates?

Simply put, these rebates are meant to add incentives for businesses to upgrade their products that use energy. The goal is to get the biggest consumers of energy to lower the amount they use regularly. However, every energy provider has a different method to get this done. It is important to understand that not all energy providers offer these incentives. You will need to check with your energy service provider to find out if they offer any rebates or incentives.

How Lighting Rebates Work

Not every service provider offers business lighting rebates. However, those that do have similar methods. The first step is to upgrade your lighting to energy-efficient options like LED bulbs. You can then submit an application to your energy provider for energy-efficient rebates.

You will then get either a response on more changes or just get a check. It is that simple. Businesses use up the most energy thanks to the size of the workspaces they provide. For example, a building with 2 floors that is a business will use more energy than a two-story home. That is most obvious and energy providers are working to lessen that amount.

How to Qualify for Lighting Rebates

The first step is to check whether or not your service provider offers rebates. Your service provider may not, however, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t upgrade. You will then want to go through the process of upgrading your lighting throughout your business. LED lights are perfect and could qualify you for any rebates. All components must be installed and operational before you put in an application for rebates.

The specific lighting solutions most energy providers are looking for include ones with certification labels like the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Electrical Testing Laboratory (ETL), or TUV Rheinland (TUV). The upgrades must show a net decrease of installed wattage per space as well. You will then qualify for rebates once all of the above has been proven. Luckily, your service provider can offer you a list of products to use as well. This is the only way to qualify for business lighting rebates but the rebates will be worth the effort.
